pismo dunes (oceano) 4x4??

I'm not sure if it rocks, but it's ok. But then again, I don't sit in camp and hang out with Jack all weekend.

I have been going to pismo for over 20yrs, with both 2 and 4 wd drive. The first thing I do is find out the tide info and plan on showing up 1 hr before low tide. That gives you the most hard beach to drive on and if you get stuck the ocean is moving away from you not towards you. Airing down the tires is mandatory for sure. My son had a mazda 2wd pickup there last summer and could go any where he wanted to with 5-6psi in each tire. My '88 Ford 4X4 will go any where with 15-20 psi in its tires with out my trailer. In the sand, trailers become Tractor pull sleds IMO. I hit the soft sand full throttle and can go any where until I stop. Then it is tough to get going but I have found that re hooking to the trailer at a angle gets me enough advantage over the trailer to get moving to leave or reposition.
