Crooms is nice but can be crowded. It has a small campground (about 30 sites) but it fills up as early as Thursdays. Tried to camp there this weekend and was met by a NO Vacancy sign! We camped at a local campground (5 miles away) and commuted for riding. Permits are required (they cost $25 cash only and are available at the rangers station at the gate). Crooms is located near Brooksville at Exit 61 - Hwy. 50 off I75. Other than Crooms, Ocala is the next best. Two major areas to ride. Big Scrub and Lake Delancy areas. No permits, but riding on unmarked trails only (strictly enforced). Watch out during hunting season (not advised). Hope this helps.
PS - Croom is closed from OCT 16 to NOV 16 for infected pine tree harvesting.
