I was on my way to Baldwin, Michigan, headed west, on U.S.-10, just east of Clare, when I saw a sign, an official sign, not hand made mind you. It said, "Manistee Rail Trail"... I set the GPS to see how many miles I would travel to my house which is where the other end of the tracks are, or in this case, used to be. See, the State removed all the tracks and ties. Anyway, GPS says it's 49.7 miles to my house outside Baldwin. Anybody tried riding this trail yet? Otherwise, I'll let you know how it goes in November.

I live in South east lower MIchigan like you do. I haven't ridden any trails yet. Which ones are good and what type of terrain is there on the trails typically? Is it just a trail, or are there jumps, obstacles, and other fun stuff? Where do you usually ride?

Thanks.

Jeff, you should get in touch with the DNR. They have maps of trails you can ride, if you have your ORV sticker on your---quad? If you're a beginner, take the classes. If not, no offense... Still, some of the trails here are tuff and you don't want to go out there alone, so take your buddy and have at it...

You guys are lucky to have such a great trail system. Mich,Wi, and Utah have some of the best
trail systems in the country.
We live in Florida and its hard to find places to ride. I look so forward to Christmas as that is when we come back home to Wi with our Banshees and hit some trails.Only a few weeks away and counting.

Chuck,
Thanks for the info. Yes, a few years ago I raced mx on a quad that I sold, so I have some experience. You mentioned that the terrain can be tough. What can I expect to see on the trails? I've been to the DNR web site and printed out a few trail maps. Which trails do you like best? Have you been to the ST. Helen Motorsports ORV Area/ What is it like?

Thanks.

Sorry Jeff. I don't have any idea about the MotorSport area. You don't have to go that far to ride. There are areas closer to you like Denton, Gladwin and Leota. All very good trails the DNR takes good care of. And I don't know who runs the MotorSport facility but my guess is it will cost to ride there. Check before you go. Good luck...

Are there any of the riders familiar with the old R.R. Track along Clare, to Evart, Reed City and Baldwin? Snowmobils used it for years. I use a section of it myself to get over to Tin Cup. Now! I bet you're wonderin'"How's he doin' that?
