i like riding the cold spot b/c there is alot of people there, ranging from quads racing in this big open field to buggies climbing some very steep hills to a bunch of utilities cruising. as far as the cold spot there is no need for permision(abandoned goverment land).the part where you cross a creek which leads to the old cement plant is the part were you would need permision , most people dont ask (he doesnt care with the exception, of some idiots that like to make trouble, by going on the property around his house , and tearing up his fields, there is only a couple acres that he dont want people on and there is always some idiots that go ahead and try to **** him off.)as far as the cold spot its a great place to ride , dont worry about permission, there are a good mix of hills, mud, and trails and people. and if you want you can ride from the cold spot all the way to hangingrock/wayne national orv trails.( just did it yesterday) hope this helped. any questions holler at me or if want to ride holler, the more the merrier.
