Can I ride on the street?
#1
A bit odd of a question, but I'm going to ask. I am legally blind in one eye, and as such can't get a driver's license. I have good enough vision to get around, but can't drive. I'm looking for an alternative source of transportation than my bicycle, which is a pain during bad weather or some times of year. What I want to know is can you drive a four wheeler on the street? I would stay off the main street, just using back streets. I know that technically you can't bike on major streets but it happens all the time. I've seen people using 4 wheelers on the street before, I just want to make sure it's legal before I do it. I am in a small town of about 12,000 people, so we don't have a problem with highways or anything. Any help would be appreciated, I haven't found an answer anywhere on the 'net. Surely someone else with less than perfect vision must have thought of this before... Thanks! Allen

More than likely you are not allowed. I concur with Bowtie and call your local law enforcement agency. If you have a good rapport with your local cops they may allow you to ride as long as you aren't a nuisance about it. Our local cops overlook it until they start getting a lot of calls. It is very effective in making us police ourselves otherwise the police will do it for us!

My father only has one eye and he never had any trouble obtaining his drivers' liscense in any state he has ever lived in, so I don't understand why you would have any trouble either.
He's been driving with one eye for about 25 years.

Don't have one yet, I want to see if I can use one before I buy.
This brings up another question. If I drive a street legal 4 wheeler do I then need a drivers license? BTW, I can't drive because in Alaska you have to have 20/50 vision, and mine is 20/60 in my good eye.
