Default Cleghorn exit off the 15 hwy - 2N47(Cajon, Ca.)?

Ok fellas, how is the riding here? The ariel map shows a nice long trail to get to Silverwood lake (2n47). I plan on camping out and riding the sportquads around exploring the trails. Lots of rocks or a bladed dirt road? Is there a place to stage from adjacent to the 15 hwy off of Cleghorn road east? My truck is 2wd pulling a 20? toyhauler?

2N47/3N22 is typical So. Calif. fire road. Graded, but with some rain ruts here and there. A lot of the route burned in the big fire a couple years ago, so that detracts from the scenery. You can stage from the Cleghorn exit off the I-15, but the parking room is limited. The other end off the 138 is just a big turnout.

I don't think there are any great places to camp along Cleghorn (????). When you going??? We will be at Miller Canyon on Saturday, 3/17 (http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/513660.cfm). You can do remote camping at Miller, and one real nice thing is that there are trees, and you will have some shade! Think about camping there and joining us for a ride Saturday???? There are some nice easy family friendly fire roads down below, and some challenging single track up on top.

Not much room for a toyhauler at Cleghorn exit. The riding is not all that great. You can get into the hills though. Rocky fire service roads. You may like the Miller Cyn. or the Pinnacles staging area (my favorite). Room for trailers there and good central location for Lake Silverwood or Deep Creek.

Pinnacles is a great choice for camping as well. It is harder to find than Miller, and requires a drive up into the mountains. Plus the staging area can get dusty. PM me and I can give you directions.........

Thanks for the info guys. Miller canyon and Pinnacles staging areas sound great but it's still up in the air where im going to stage from, i discovered a small oil leak comming from my raptors oil tank last night but im going to take a spare tank with me, so i might have to throw a wrench on my quad while im there. This is going to be a putt putt ride forr my girlfriend and I while i keep an eye on my leak, oh well beats staying home.

Im pretty sure where miller canyon is but i dont like going through the twisty section of mountains off of 138, I'll have find my maps to check for an alt. route (flatter)

Hey Happy when are ya gonna give up your "secert dune spot" near the outlets?

You'll get busted at the "secret dune spot"......it's Riverside county and while some of it is BLM land, a lot of it is private.

Remember that if you do "remote" camping, you need a fire permit, even if you don't intend to have a campfire. You can get them at ranger stations or BLM offices, and maybe at the forest service fire stations (??). The premit doesn't mean you have permission to light a campfire anywhere, it is just a way for them to be sure you know what the rules are.....and God knows we sure don't need another brush fire!

To get to Miller Canyon, a way to bypass the worst of the twisty stuff on 138 might be to exit the I-15 at Hesparia, then drive around back of town past the Mojave River Dam, and you will connect to 138 below Silverwood Lake. I think the route might be: Main St east in Hesparia, then north on Lake Arrowhead Rd., then west on hwy 173, which will run into 138.........

We will be staging from Miller on Saturday at 10:00, so at least say hello even if you can't join us for a ride. I have a white 99 Suburban with a large white flat trailer, and I will be most likely riding an old red Honda Rancher.

My "secret dune" spot is still an open and legal area. I have been 3 times this seson. Have been going there for over 27 years. Took some kids that are new, and since the dunes are small, it is a perfect place. It is still a drive to get there....not near the outlets.
PM me for directions and other info.
