The city of Syracuse is opening a dune park. Going by what they are saying it will be bigger than Wynoka once it is all opened up. This is right on Hwy 50, south of the Arkansas River, western Kansas. I read in the local newspaper (saturdays edition that we get on monday) they had it open on Saturday for an article that Sand Sports Magazine was doing. Heard this morning they had around 600 ATV's there on saturday.
It is due to open (going by paper) by the 4th of July, have heard rumors may be as early as Memorial weekend.
Web site (which is not working yet) is syracusesandpark.com

Went to Syracuse on Sunday the 2nd, is only 75 miles away from my house.
As far as the ride area, they are in bad need of lots of riders to get rid of the grass & sagebrush so the sand will start moving. There were a few areas that are open and in these areas the sand is doing what it has for years (not staying in one place). There is the potential for hills that will put Waynoka to shame. In the whole area (1280 acres) there is only 2, that is TWO trees, so when some more of the grass & sage gets knocked out there is nothing to stop the wind. One thing we did notice, at Waynoka the dune tops run east-west, at Syracuse they are running north-south. This may be something that will change as more area gets opened. In talking to the gal at the ticket gate, she said they really hadn't been that busy yet, except for this past weekend. She said they are working on getting another 1/2 section, so that will jump total acres to 1600. Looked like they were working on getting showers/bathrooms hooked up at the gate area.
While we were there on Sunday there were probably 125 ATV's, 8-12 Buggies, 4-5 Ranger type and 10-15 RZR.

We didn't camp, just went out for the day. There were several campers in the parking area. There is also a RV campground on the west side of town and another on the way from the stoplight to the bridge.
