Yup. Kind of hone you need depends on the project at hand. Easiest is a bead hone which takes the difficulties of adjusting a stone hone properly. Using the right kind of oil is important as are drill and stroke speed and proper size of hone.

For what it costs it's cheaper to have it done than buying all the stuff unless you're going to be doing it a lot.

Don't hone a chrome plated bore.

Sounds like it would be cheaper to have it done. Does anyone know who does this kind of work?

Any good machine shop should be able to do it. Wish I could remember the name of the shop Josh and I took my cylinder head from the Chevy to. He was great, didn't charge much and caught something barely noticeable to the eye at all. One man shop he had in an industrial park with tons of cool, really expensive machines to do everything with.

Gonna go big bore?
