Default Alpine Loop Colorado

Ive seen the photos online, and maps. But im looking for input from someone whos actually been on the trail.
Can a 2 wheel drive sporty, like a 250ex make it ok? Is 4 wheel drive necesary for an atv? Can kids under 16, who are licenced( for ATVs) in other states, drive their own quad?
Is there an out of state trail permit? or does it just have to be licenced somewhere?
Can I ride 2 up, in Colorado...on a atv built for one? In MN its legal, even though the stickers on the atv say not to. I know....I know, im not looking for a lecture on safety, I just want information about doing it. Does the dnr look the other way, or do they stop you and ticket you?
Is there a CO website of rules and regs on Atv useage?
Where have you stayed, and how was it?
You dont have to answer all the questions, any input by those who have been there, or knows is welcome

ALPINE LOOP IS A EASY 2WHEEL DRIVE CAR RD/TRAIL SO YES YOU CAN USE YOU 250 EX WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, BUT THERE ARE SOME HARDER SIDE TRAIL TO DO AS WELL. AS FOR THE PERMIT I THINK YOU HAVE SIXTEEN DAYS IF YOU ARE LICENSED IN ANOTHER STATE NOT REAL SURE YOU CAN CHECK WWW.STAYTHETRAIL.COM FOR MORE INFO W/MAPS AND SUCH. I DO KNOW YOU CANNOT RIDE 2UP UNLESS YOU HAVE A BIKE BUILT FOR THAT TYPE OF RIDING.GOOD LUCK AS YOU WILL ENJOY RIDING IN CO. NO BETTER STATE IN MI MIND AS FAR AS BEAUTIFUL SCENERY GOES.

My 11 year old son and I rode their 2 summers ago. Your 250 will do fine on most of the trails. Yes kids can ride their own ATV's and there is not a problem with riding 2-up. You can go the Colorado state parks website, that is where the rules are posted for stickers, but basically if you are stickered in your home state, you are good here. We stayed at Castle Lakes campground and rode right from their onto the Alpine Loop. It was an OK campground, there are not a lot of choices to be able to ride from and you can not do the entire loop on your ATV, there is a couple of miles that go through Lake City that is paved road that you are not allowed to ride on. There are a couple of forest campgrounds along the road that are first come, first serve. Castle Lakes has a website that shows pricing and such. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Im probably not going, but a and m are, and families too. If youre interested in going, let a or m know.
We are still going to do a northern wi trip, probably a 1 or 2 nighter, and right now, there are no firm plans. Maybe right after memorial day , but if youre interesed, and we figured you would be, Ill let you know when we are going to get together to talk about it. We are probably taking utes, but a sporty shouldnt have a problem. We wanted utes, because we are probably doing an over nighter on quads, so weve got to have racks to carry the stuff. Sound like something youd be interested in?
