If anyone is interested..we went to Danbury this last weekend. Its open til the end of the month, and was actually faster than the summer riding. Also no bugs or dust. There were lots of ATVs at the trailhead at the fishbowl, and not that many snowmobilers. Not everything is open, and theres no where to get gas ( county roads are closed to atvs), so bring your own. The gas milage was horible, but it was alot of fun. As the snow cover disappears, there will be less snowmobilers, you might want to get your trail ride in, before the 2 month spring thaw, closes the trails.</end quote></div>
How much snow is on the trails? groomed? How many miles did you ride?
The Burnett county website indicates only the winter ATV trails are open which will allow more riding terrain than during the summer months. You can also ride south down to Grantsburg for fuel which you can not do in the summer.
ATV winter Trails are open until Mar 31 or lack of snow cover..</end quote></div>
Its much smoother than the trail is in the summer, so it was probably recently groomed.
We had the Burnett county frozen atv trail maps, and none show a route into Grantsburg. Basicly, you have to stay on the marked trails, and no county roads, which in the summer, are open to atvs.
We might have gone 50 miles, but milage was dismal..the popo probably got under 10mpg.
I thought there were less trails open/ We couldnt ride to either of the 2 bars we normally go to..Cabriolet, and the one on the lake, I forget the name, but they have great burgers.
When we werre riding back, to the fishbowl, which was jammed with people, and so was the parking lot, we encountered a few muddy areas, so the trail is deteriorating, and probably will be ok for the coming weekend, becasue of the cold. But if we get a couple of 40 degree days, itll be really sloppy.
The ride wasnt bad, untill we got over 30mph, then the wind chill was kind of brutal.
