Ocotillo Wells - what to expect?
#1
Hi
I'm going to Ocotillo Wells this weekend. I'll spend the night Friday. I have a tent, trailer, and my Z400. I have a set of Paddle tires and the set of stock all terrain tires. Which should I have mounted for that terrain?
I currently have the Stock ATV tires mounted so I'm kinda leaning towards just leaving them on unless you all are suggesting otherwise.
Anyways, All opinions... Bring em on! Thanks.
oh yea, any other must haves?
so far the check list is:
Z400
extra fuel
Beer (just a little)
Water (alot)
Coke (a-cola)
Tent
Air matress (ahhhh)
sleeping bag
flash lights
any other suggestions?
Thanks, Chris

Great OW trail map. You can also pick up great copies of these at the ranger station: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=23478
Where are you camping? I like the "Cove" area, but it is popular and can get a bit crowded. The areas around the ranger station and Holmes Camp have descent bathrooms, ramadas and tables....nice when you are tent camping (pray that it isn't windy!). There are even showers at the ranger station!
Paddles would be a mistake! There are only a few areas where they would be a plus, but you would tear them up everywhere else! The good spots to explore are marked on the map with big red dots: Blow Sand, the canyon behind the Cove, Devil's Slide, Pumpkin Patch, Shell Reef, etc. Just take lots of water and a map and go explore. Most major intersections are well marked.
We will probably be out there Saturday for a day ride. I have never explored the north east corner of the park much, and I want to do that this year before it gets hot and the riding season ends......

Just took a look a the weather forecast....and it't going to be 90 every day! Maybe we will try out Red Rock Canyon instead, where it will be in the mid 70's....

Campsite is right here:

Up at the north end.
From Borrego Salton Seaway I'll go south about 1/2 mile down Holly Rd.
Meeting some guys there. Come on over!!!!
We'll have a fire in the evening. Look for Riders Group banners
It will be my first outing with them
Thanks on the Paddle tire info. I'll keep the stock ATV Tires on.
I found another cool map too.
