Anyone Ever Ride At Mountwood OHV?
#2
Yea I was there about 5 years ago. It is east of Parkersburg. The trails were well maintained I would guess about 25miles long. Nothing difficult. I like the scenery and saw a lot of deer. Also saw lot of old abandon oil rig equipment. At that time we were members of the club and you had a key to get in the gate. I don't think the club maintains it now. I think now you pay at the park entrance. If you drive past the park I remember some radical hill climbs and unbelievable powerline trails. If you live in WV have you been to Hatfield McCoy?

I rode there last summer. It is a pay park I believe $10 a day. The trails was well maintained. There is a wide variety of trails to ride. I didn't get a chance to ride a lot of the trails just didn't have time. Had a few beginners with me and didn't want to leave them. But I am thinking of going back again.

yea I live in parkersburg and the trails are pretty easy fun to blast out but the good trails are on out past the park you dont have to pay to ride and there are some monster hill climbs.
Everyone normally goes on sundays at 10:00 after you pass the park on the left alot of old oil stuff you follow the gravel on arond the switch back its about 2 miles out and you park just off the gravel road you will see people there

Like BG400 says, coming from Fairmont, about 20 miles before getting to Parkersburg you will see a sign for Mountwood Park and you take a left from your direction. Like a few of the other posts said, there is some good riding out a few other roads out there namely Myers Fork Road (about 5 miles before you get to Mountwood on your left). I have heard of Goose Creek also but I'm not sure if you can get to it directly from the highway.
I've been to Mountwood 3 times and it's pretty good riding. A few fairly steep hills, cutbacks, and nice scenery. A few downed trees, mud holes, and stream crossings here and there to make it interesting. If you go on a weekday, you have about 25 miles pretty much to yourself. Well maintained but there are a few "outlaw" trails not on the map. When it starts to get dark there, it gets dark FAST.

I used to live in Lubeck. I ride a Foreman ES and ride mostly with my brother in law. He has a Foreman S and a Rancher ES. Most comomon riding place is Ritchie Mines. Took a trip to Mom's Mountain in Beckley last fall and had a blast on the track plus about 20 miles of trails. That was before H-M opened. Can't wait to get down there.
Any chance you could offer any riding opportunities in our area, especially after it warms up a little. I live in Coolville now.
