I thought I heard that pittsfield was closed to atv's now...? You might want to call ahead and make sure the trails are open. I know they won't be open this weekend

Here's a clip from the EV Police bulliten- which is also posted at the Pittsfiels State Forest site...

DCR will close approximately 20 miles of the currently designated ATV and motorcycle trails in the Forest for the 2010 season to protect rare species and sensitive wetland resources. Approximately 14 miles of Pittsfield State Forest’s ATV and motorcycle trails will remain open for those uses for the 2010 season. The trail system is scheduled to open to recreational ATV and motorcycle use on Saturday, May 29, 2010. To maximize rider safety and enjoyment and minimize degradation of the remaining trails from overuse during the closure period, DCR will institute an ATV and motorcycle recreational use permit system for Pittsfield State Forest. A maximum of 50 rider permits will be issued through Pittsfield State Forest headquarters each day.

Kinda sucks- really aren't worth the 3-4 hour round trip to ride 14 miles of trails- that's IF you can get a permit that day. Also- Sucks that none of the ATV trails will be open until May 29 2010... and from what I've heard- DCR is all over the place right now enforcing the state forest regulations. You guys may want to reschedule your trip-

They say you'll be able to "reserve" your permits- only one per person, but no permits will be issued until may 29- Here's a link to the DCR site-

All the MA State parks (ie...the only legal riding areas in the state) do not open until May 29. (Including October Mountain)

Troy...I looked at a map of where we got stopped, and it seems that if you stay on the other side of the road for a few hundred yards there's a field you can cut through. Is that where you re-trailed? Look forward to giving that section another shot....
