Default So. Calif.-Armed Robbery at Johnson Valley!

This is an unpublised report from another forum:

"This guy from my work has been camping there for many many years. Well this last Friday night he got held up at 345am in the morning. There where four guys well organized, night vision, fire arms and a crossbow. They took his dog out with the crossbow, picked the lock to his camper door and pistol whipped him and his wife and they never heard the guys coming in. Ran sacked the camper, truck, luggage and slashed one tire so he could not fallow after them. All they got was $38, cell phones and tools maybe valued at $120. When he filed and report with the local authorities the officer said this type of crime is on the rise as there as there is no law enforcement around and said he was lucky as some where not. He was staged off the 247 and Boone Rd. so if you are out there be careful and watch out. I have never been there and was thinking of taking the wife there but might think twice now."

Allways good to be vigilant, and well armed! In spite of all the stuff you hear about this being an anti-gun state, DO YOUR KNOW THAT STATE LAW ALLOWS YOU TO BE ARMED IN YOUR CAMPSITE, motel/hotel room, rental, or private property! This is related to the "castle" doctrine, which says that you are not required to "flee" when you are in your own home. So...your campsite or motel room is your "home" while you are occupying it.

In addition, it is legal to carry an unconcealed handgun in most areas. (FYI...the concealed weapon law does not apply to long gun, becasue they are not considered consealable.) Normally it would be required to be unloaded, but in many rural counties it is legal to do "target shooting", so this exception allows you to be openly armed with a loaded weapon out in the bush much of the time.

For example, at Johnson Valley it is not legal to "target shoot" a rifle or handgun, but it is legal to shoot a shotgun as long as the shot is less than 1/2 the diameter of the barrel. (This however may only apply while legally hunting....I can't remember???? So just get a hunting license!)

Another example, the BLM and Imperial County allow target shooting. So, you could walk around Glamis with a loaded handgun on your hip (unconcealed).

Note that special rules apply while transporting a gun in your vehicle and around schools, so be sure you educate yourself about those. (Your camper is not considered a "vehicle" once it is parked and set up in your campsite. In that case it becomes your "home".) http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Use this to your advantage!!!
