Planning an ATV trip to Wisconsin in spring. My son is 12 and rides a 300ex. Will he be able to ride it on DNR ground or state park trails without any problems since he is under 16 and on a machine larger than 90cc? Other than wisconsin atv permits what else is required? We are from Illinois. I know in some states like Mo. Ind. and Ill. the riders age and safety courses or certificates are not a concern to ATV parks. Just want to know before planning a trip and driving 6 hr. for nothing if he's unable to ride.

 

The law here is you have to be 12 to ride on the trails, so he should be fine. Just make sure you ride with him. I dont know about the safety course thing, just go to The Wisconsin DNR web site and read up on it.

Since last summer Wisconsin requires everyone born after a certain date (I think it's 1988) to pass a safety course before being legal to ride on trails. They offer an on-line course. Check the DNR for details.
