WARNING just to let every one know that is interested in riding atvs north of black river falls . we had a family reunion in the area we rented a large house in the area it was great we brought 5 -4 wheelers to ride the trails and gave our family members all a chance to ride. all was going great till the weather turned bad to the north and my weather radio said to take cover . we found a road that took us to the closest shelter. Dep. Sheriff was there so we pulled up to talk to the Dep. Sheriff. all he could tell us that we couldnt ride on that road and we explaned to him about the situation to take cover the best way we could. he told us that the law is the law and we broke the law. and wrote us a $200 ticket. he had no respect for us at all. after spending over 8 thousand dollars in the black river area for our family reunion. bought all the trail passes and tried to do everything right . and to have a Dep. Sheriff ruin our whole reunion under a emergency situation to get to shelter. i am sorry to say we will NOT be coming back and will let many people know of our expriance.
thanks
paul erickson

BRF is a great palce to ride, don't let some little ticket keep you from coming back. I have been up their many times when the weather turns bad. Just need to tough up and get wet. If you had younger kids i would of done the same thing to was seek shelter. I know the cops are really bad up thier. Just don't let one bad person kill the fun.

i have sent this letter to many places. including (DNR Snowmobile and ATV Grant manager) and she was very responsive wanting full details and she is going to take action. this is of today 9/6/11
i will keep posted on the outcome. it sure would be a waste of a great riding area with over zealous officers.

I'm planning on camping in Darlington this weekend to ride the Cheese County trail with my son. Anything I should know about the area?

The trail is very flat and there is a speed limit of 30 mph. I have been there before and hate it. It is a great place to learn to ride.

I have only ridden there once. I won't be be back. Very nicely marked trails that connect to gas stations bars and food. However very boring, 30mph and no real 4wd aspect to the trails means a real boring day of riding. At least to me and my fiancee. If you are looking for smooth flat sandy trails great place to go just not my cup of tea. I like riding an all terrain vehicle.

PS If you aren't from WI make sure you have a non resident trail pass and that your machine is registered in your home state.

I have registration stickers that look like the ones below. I registered online and used my Illinois address.
