So Cal riding area suggestions?

Hey guys. Just looking for NEW places to check out in the southern California area that aren't four to five hours away. I've been quite a few places but I'm starting to see more and more of my places either shrinking or closing all together. Whitewater was a close small favorite but now you've got to be sneaky about it and it's just not my style. I've done the Victorville area to death also. Like I said, I just need some idea for new places to go. So what are your suggestions?
Thanks

What's the deal with Whitewater?? I have not been out there yet this season, but I've never been hassled there before!! We ride the San Bernardino Mtns. during summer when the valleys are hot. It's pretty restrictive, but there are a few really chalanging single track trails North of Arrowhead. Do you ever ride Beaumont, where the I-60 and I-10 meet (you probably pass it going to Whitewater). There is another area to the South of Beaumont too. These are ok but not wonderful. I'm still looking for a place called Honda Valley, near Hesparia. If you're really desperate, we could show you some local trails in Yucaipa and San Timoteo/Reche Canyon. I've had good luck riding powerline/pipeline roads in lots of areas.

The problem with Whitewater is that it is now "posted no riding". Actuall only the eastern part of it is posted but the other half is private property. The weekend we were out there, there was a ranger in a new Blazer going up to everyone and writing tickets. We were lucky we were on top of a big hill so we just out ran him through the bushes
. As far as Elsinore goes, I've been to a couple grey areas where even though it's not posted no riding cops will still come through and kick everyone out.
One place of intrest that I went and checked out this weekend is Ocotillo Wells. From Fullerton it's about 3 hours and pretty close to Salton Sea. The place is massive and actually caters to riders. If you ever get the chance to go I highly recomend it. They've got actual spots to camp with shade and fire pits. They've even got hot showers! As far as riding goes there is a little bit of everything. "Badlands" style terrain, fast washes, big hill climbs, some sand, and some great jumps. Just wish I had remembered my damn camera.
I'll be doing some more research and if I find any other places that are relatively nice I'll post here.

We've been doing Ocotillo for years. It's one of my favorite places. Have you checked out the "Cove" area. It has much better camping than elsewhere, and the canyon to the West (which takes you over to Blow Sand Hill) has a bunch of S-turns (Disneyland doesn't have a ride that is that much fun!!).
Have you been to Rasor, on I-15 this side of Baker?? No crowds, and there is a little of everything-dunes, sandy flats, single track trails in the hills. You can do day trips to Dumont, but you don't have to camp with the crowds!

Hungry Valley is a grat place to ride. It's a few miles south of Magic Mountain, at Gorman. It's an SVRA, so it's totally leagal and the terrain is pretty challenging.

i just went this past weekend to palmdale and rode for hours and was great. this is trail that is mountaneous terrain and has a lot and i mean a lot of turns, woops, and jumps. its packed with awesome trails. the trails are hard packed dirt and some rocky areas. i wish i lived closer but im in Tustin and have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get there. its well worh it though. there were many quadds out there as well as dirt bikes.
ive gone to silverwood or silverlake(i forget) and was great there too with mountaneous terrain but these trails were more of gravell and dirt trails for more top end riding. there was a lot of turns ect that were kind of dangerous since you didnt know if other riders were coming the opposite way. these trails too were long and could ride for several hours before coming back to the same point. the way we got there was I-15 Norht ti 138 east i guess. youd make a right once you get off the exit. at the stop sign where the convenience store is you turn right again(i guess the opposite way from palmdale) and go up the hills and the windy road. after several miles theres a street that turns left and them an immediate right down a dirt trail and thats it. i know thats very vague but if anyone wants specifics let me know and ill get them from the guy that took us out there.
it would be cool if we can all setup a riding time and date and go out as a pack. i always enloy going out in a big group and having fun.
anyone email me if that sounds like a plan at PEANSTEIN@YAHOO.com
thanks
