Default Operation Charlton, Ma

Ok guys-
Lets keep all the Charlton info organized in this thread... just makes everything easier.

I just got off the phone with the Charlton Town Administrator-
I explained what we'd like to do and she seemed very enthusiastic about the plan...
She is going to check on some info and call me back...
She seemed very appreciative in regards to the effort to raise money and repair the damaged youth soccer fields- and said she could possibly help getting the word out locally once the plan starts to gel.

The hard part will be finding a local trail to host the ride- it's been done before in warren & brookfield...
All we really need is a good 20 miles worth.

If we can open this to bikes & atv's at $20 / ticket- we should be able to collect a good amount of $$ for the cause...
and reward the riders with burgers & dogs at the end

I sent her (Robin) a link to this thread to keep her in the loop.

First steps:

Select a place to host the charity
Pick a date

It would really be great if we atv'ers could turn this vandalism into something positive.

Anything I can do to help I will. I do not live in the area, I live SE of Boston. I will spread the word to the guys I ride with. Anyone want to open a PayPal account for donations for those that want to give and can't make the ride.

I'll do what I can do. Quads are getting maintenance done right now, so if it could hold off a couple weeks that'd be good. Keep me in the loop and I'll see what I can do.

I was thinking - paypal and pooling donations is one way to go- but it's kind of impersonal. Everyone should be recognized for their donation even if you can't make it.

What I propose is... I can open a po box at the town post office where I could receive the donations (checks) made out to the "Town of Charlton".
Once I receive the donation, I would put together a "supporter matrix." I'll use this list to send 4" x 8" registration cards to each supporter.

The cards would have to be worn on the front & back of the riders chest while on the charity run (which is what I've observed from other charity runs)- which would distinguish between a registered supporter and some local rider just tagging along who didn't register or contribute. I figure this would also allow the police an easy way to identify a legit charity supporter if we need an escort.

I'm not sure how I would transfer money via pay-pal. I have a pay pal account- but I'd have to transfer the money to my personal account, then cut a check to Charlton...

I would present the checks to the town of Charlton along with the matrix of supporter's names- This way every supporters name is acknowledged.

Reg cards could just be printed and laminated- which I would have no problem doing. My wife is an Oxford school teacher (next to Charlton) and we have boxes of lamination here at the house for all the projects she does

A small percentage of each donation (maybe $1.50) would pay for postage and some bbq at the end of the ride...

I have maybe 10 family members alone with atv's that would show up for the ride.

If everyone sends in a check made out to whatever group built the field, you could just turn that over to them and let them worry about cashing/depositing.

We should be able to get this done quickly: 100 people sending in twenty bucks and we can get the thousand dollars they say it will cost to fix the damage!
