Anyone know of lesser known stuff in california?

Pismo is fun, just not on any holdiays or 3 day weekends.... Just too darn many people. And it's no fun when everyone is camped 10 feet apart.
Central Ca there is Miami trails, not too bad if you like dirt ruts and the occasional insane people on dirtbikes flying past you.
Central Ca also has whisky falls snowmobile area open to atv's in the non snowy seasons. This area isn't bad except most of the trails are a little more on the difficult side even when marked "easy".
The family and I are interested in riding areas that are within day use type distances, anyone know of anything in the central valley?
