Default RAC (Reading Anthracite) Trails, Pa.

Anyone ever ride here? Permit is 125.00 per yr. It is only 2 hrs from my house so I think I am going to try it out. Any comments would be great as to the type of riding and terrain..

There are a bunch of videos on youtube (st. Clair - trevorton pa) you can check out and threads as 74raptor stated. I have been wanting to go myself but will be grabbing my permit after winter. Located in central jersey about 2hrs away as well and willing to meet up with anyone to go. They also have a facebook club called St. Clair ATV riders.

There are bunch of guys that go there from LI and NJ. Its great riding but alot of the neighboring land is being taken over by the Game Commission. They are on the trails (not on RAC property though) and will fine you if you cross over to state land from RAC . St. Clair ATV riders is dead on FB but try Tri State Trail Riders, PA hill climbers and Black Rock trail riders. They are quite active now.

So looking at overheads on google maps, can someone tell me were the boundaries are? I hope that some of the tree covered land is till available to ride on. Some people say there are hundreds of miles of trails and then others say that the trails re taken over by hunting groups. Is that only during hunting season. I would love for someone who has riden there a lot to give us the straight dope on it. I am going tomorrow and will get a permit. But I will be riding around tentatively. Hoe I don't get los woohooo.....!!!

The boundaries change constantly due to the mining that goes on. When you get your permit you will get a parcel map tht shows you RAC land. If you go onto the FB pages I mentioned above there are alot of PA residents there that know their way around. You can hook up with them and they will show you guys around. They are really a great bunch of guys to ride with. There are a few Long Island riders that go too. You can split the ride if you want, will cost half the tolls and gas.

Went to RAC this past weekend alone...... It was fun. I entered trails at dock water road. About 5 mile trek that ended at a red gate near some bldgs. Terrain was open and wide with some crossovers between sides of excavated area. Saw a massive crane( Marion 7400) quad could fit in bucket with room to spare. There were several off shoot trails that I was reluctant to head into. They were smaller in width and tree covered along with high grass. also found quarry pond off main trail with a little bit of a hill climb to get to. Would have been safer with others and I would have been a little less hesitant, but I went on a Friday, so I didn't see any other riders. Glad I got the permit. I plan on going back.....!

If you like hill climbs, Trevorton is the place to go. That is on RAC land. plenty of videos on Youtube. Dark water rd is a nice place for trail riding. Make sure you park on RAC property and put the RAC contract in your windshield so you dont get towed. I liked riding during the week because it was quiet with no other riders, but on the flip side if something happens no one is around.
I use Open GPS tracker from Gppgle market on my cell phone and you can drop "breadcrumbs" to follow back to your car. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Can't wait to go myself nice to know there's still places around. Trevorton looks awesome as well. I see on the map its quite far but those lands have trails everywhere from locals. Can you access trevorton from st clair or is is by drive only, would be a nice trip if it was possible to trail it. I'm sure people from hazelton and trevorton don't drive to st clair maybe somebody knows those trails well and could share . But like u said Mario state land can get tricky where it starts. Anyone know if you can still wander that far and to other places by trail?

I parked behind the home depot in st clair with my parking paper on the dash. I got a half mile away and turned to look down at my truck and there was already an RAC employee checking paper. I rode back down and he nicely asked if that was my truck, I said yes, and he said no problem. My permit that I was supposed to have pinned to my shirt was stored in my quad and he never asked for it. He then proceeded to tell me that the best trail riding was near dark water rd. He did say I could take the trail all the way to the 901pub?. But I came up to a red gate that was closed on the main trail and that's as far as I went. I don't think I was anywhere near the 901 pub. I would have loved to have gone farther.
