I'm curious about the type of riding here, where to camp, whats the weather like in Oct-Nov, etc. Any tips would be appreciated.

Johnson Valley is great. It has your typical desert terain mixed in with few dry lakes and a little set of dunes. I like to camp around Soggy dry lake. To get to the lake bed take the 247 and turn off at Bessmer mine rd. The dunes are located off Melville dry lake about 3 miles east of Soggy. Not many people ride them it may be a closed area. Check out www.Topozone.com. Search for Johnson Valley CA. The weather in Oct will be great. November might get cold at night.

Johnson is great, but I would say it is rockier than some of the surrounding areas. If you are coming out this way, I would suggest checking out Stoddard Valley (BLM), Rasor (BLM), and the San Bernardino National Forest (great single track!!), which are all close by.
