Try the strip mines at Lynnvile and Spergen. It doesn't cost a thing and I talked to the DNR officer there and he said that it was posted but he hadn"tt ever been told to enforcce it.But if he catches you on a road your quad BETTER be registered and have the numbers on it. Lynnville is at exit 39 onn I 64 and Spurgen is 5 miles north of there.WEe go at least once a month. If you do live in Mooresville that would be over a 3.25 hour drive for you or more. You don't have to get in the hard stuff if you don't want to. There is lots of old haul roads to ride on. You do have to be 16 years of age and have your Indiana off road registration numbers if an officer stops you on the back roads. I regularly come from my place up near Winslow and ride the rock roads to the Spurgeon area and then I ride over to the Somerville area which is 5 to 6 miles away from the Spurgeon area and get there through all the rock roads Pike county has.
Some days what I do is take off from my place and then head for the Spurgeon area and make the loop through there and check out all the riders and then take off for the Somerville area and make that loop and then head back home. It takes me 2.5 hours to make the whole trip and I am on the Raptor not going very slow. We have a blast riding through southern Indiana Pike/Gibson County. Chet

I did not know it was that far dam the luck. I guess I'll have to pass I dont have my quad regestered anyway. Thanks guys for the invite and the info but I'll have to pass till it gets warmer so I can do an over night camping thing. 6.5 hours of driving is just a little to much for 1 day.

There is a lot of people who do camp there at certain times of the year. When gun seasons opens there will be lots of hunters camping. Some of the campsites have been there for years. Some are quite secluded. Those are the campsites that must have armed guards at night to protect against the wild pigs that regularly pray on the humans in their territory. That's another story from years ago when someone brought in pigs to hunt in warrick county and they escaped the fenced area and have taken refuse in the old stripper pit and overburden mound areas. They have thousand of areas to hunt for the humans. Chet

love the story about the pigs.We have camped at Spurgen and not seen them.If we did we would think it was the beer. There are some great camp sites there though.Like to make it before it gets too cold for a sat. nite.Like the little tavern in Lynnville too the owner is great and takes good care of the riders who stop in. I know where the tavern is next to the bank. Go through Lynnville all the time. Have you been riding yet over in the Somerville area which is on the other side of Spurgeon? If you know where the Log Creek church area is I almost had that area purchased and my bid was even excepted buy Interlake but the State of Indiana jerked it out from underneath me. Also have you seen the turkeys yet. About 4 years ago near the log creek church area I come up over a hill and I got the biggest rush of my life (well almost) Approx. 75 to 100 turkeys were roosting in between two of the overburden hills and I thought for a moment I was going to be murdered by turkeys and then as fast as you can say what the heck they were gone. My blood pressure didn't go down quite as quick though. Chet
