I talked to the ANF-Marienville ranger station and they said that the trials, for ATV's, would be open this saturday, 12/29. They needed a good freeze before opening the trails. Just as long as the weather stays cold, not a problem from the forecasts I've seen, it will be open. I always call ahead anyways, saves a 2 hour trip.

I was planning to go last weekend but couldn't make it. I'd like to hear from people who've gone to tell me what the trail conditions are (ie. icy, snow packed, frozen dirt etc.).

can you ride the ATV trail to Timberline trail? If so can you go all the way to pigs ear in the winter season? If there is snow on the trail would snowmobiles be on the ATV trails?

 

Yeah, the entire ATV trail, including timberline, is open in the winter. I think snowmobiles can ride on it, but I don't remember seeing any last time I was there. There are so many miles of dedicated snowmobile trails up there that I would hope they would use those instead. ATV's can only go on the ATV designated trails. I'll probably be up there tomorrow.

So did the Marienville trails open up for ATVs? Did anyone go and if so what were the conditions? I was thinking of taking a trip down there but I don't want to go if there is too much snow to ride in.

I guess I thought about this a little late. I called one number and it said the atv and the snowmobile trails are open, but with this warm up I wanted to be sure before I drove out there.
