looking for southeast mn riders
#1
I live in (La crescent)southeast mn. I am retired (62 years young) and have a new 2002 sportsman. I would like to make contact with other people in the area to ride with. Please advise if anyone knows of any group rides taking place that I could join in on. I have a single place trailer to transport my machine. Looking forward to hearing from ya.

Hello RB122739 or Dick,
Congrats on your 2002 Sportsman. I usually ride with family or alone 4 hours north of the cities, but I do know of a group in Hastings or Redwing that like to ride up near Danbury Wi. There is a parking lot in town where you can unload and ride the Gandy Dancer trail about 3 miles north, then you can get into an ATV trail system in the St Croix forest. Real nice for beginners and people that like to know where they are going. Pretty wet in the spring, pretty dusty in the fall. Farther up the Gandy you can get into another forest, forgot the name. If you watch the board towards spring I think a club will invite anyone for a ride from Danbury up to ?? for an overnite ride. Never did it but sounded fun.
As a retireee, and a new 2002, man, you'll know all the places. Maybe we can ride this spring up north.

HI Fishbones,
Thanks for the reply I was begining to think may be there was something wrong with me or else maybe there weren't any Minnesota ATVers. I was kind of hopeing to make contact with someone around the La Crescent/Winona/La Crosse area that I could team up with and do some trail riding. Ya may be we could do some riding together this spring just post a note as to when you are going for a ride. I am really enjoying this retirement life, but I got to get going and start doing some wheeling before I get to soft.

Last spring a group of us went to the Nemadji state forest for a ride on opening day (April 1st). There was about 50 of us that gathered and it all started here in the Connection or by word of mouth by Connection members. We may be planning another ride for the weekend after the 1st of April again in the new year depending on conditions. I'll will post here when we have more info. Any others interested are welcome to join.

Thanks for the reply LEP7MM.
I will be looking for your posting about more info on rides in future postings. Two questions though 1) where is Le Sueur MN 2) where is the Nemaddji state forest? I am looking forward to making new freinds that are interested in wheeling. Have plenty of time and willing to ride. I have a single place trailer and am planing on modifying an old boat trailer that I have to a two machine hauler. Need to get some miles on that new 500 sportsman as it isn't doing any good just sitting there. Need to get the oil good and hot in my machine if you know what I mean. Is there and winter rides in the snow?? Just want to have some fun

RB,
Le Sueur is 25 miles north of Mankato off hwy 169. Nemadji State Forest is just south of Duluth. we had an age range of riders between 18 and around 65. There are only a few areas that are open during the winter since most trails are snowmobiles only. Personally, I don't feel that a good 4x4 wheeler will do as much damage as one of the 180 HP sleds on the market today. As long as the wheelers stay on the hardpack, they'll do ok. But the state doens't see it that way. Wisconsin on the other hand, has many trails open to wheelers year round. I may be heading to Trimont in the near future for a ride as long as the weather holds out for us. That area is 52 acres of trails that run through a creek bottom and a scrambling area as well. They claim there is 8 miles of trails, but I racked up 3 on my odometer while I was there. Although a person could make a day of it. Trimont is just south and east of Windom. It's about 1 1/2 hours for me to drive. If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer.

Hey RB122739,
I'm Chris, and I co-found a small (about 13 members) riding group in Red Wing called the Muddivers.
We'll tell you how we got the name some other time.
We are actually planning a ride this weekend, and are looking for a place to go. We have a few spots around Red Wing that are slightly not legal, but never get any trouble on any of it. Still don't like it, but whatta ya gonna do?
We are the group that Fishbones talks about in the first reply here. We have members ranging from 24 to guys in there mid 40's. We have a website with quite a few pics of us, and it's not completely done, but I'm working on it.
We always love to have more and more riders, so if you thing you'd like to meet us, feel free to email me.
The email I use the most for wheeling is fruitjacket@hotmail.com
Many of our riders are religious, some aren't, some married, some not. But we don't drink and ride, and we respect the environment the best we can. Other riders who we've met online always go with us, so I don't think you'd have too much trouble dealing with us. Let me know if you're interested in trekking up to Red Wing (about 20 miles north of Lake City if you didn't know). Like I said, we're riding this weekend, so lemme know.
Talk to you soon, and congrats on your retirement and new Sportsman. Did you get the 700 is all I want to know?? I can't wait to see one of those bad-boys.
Later,
Chris Chandler
