We used to drive down there and camp out a few times a year but the cops pretty much shut the whole place down a couple of years ago. Has anybody been riding down there and what is the cop situation like? Please help, I can't drive 4 hours to find out I have to go home again!!

Thanks.

John

Hey John it's pretty much a crap shoot. Either hit or miss. It's still there and of course the local law enforcement agencies show up on occasion.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll post again when the weather gets better. It really sucks because that was the best riding place I ever went to except when we go all the way out to Silver Lake Dunes in Michigan. I know Forked River is pretty much done too, George locked the gates because too many jerks were leaving garbage behind. If you know of any other good places that are similar to Port Elizabeth that you can camp/ride could you e-mail me some info and directions at johngmr@yahoo.com? I live in North Jersey and everywhere around here is nothing but rocks which are fun for a while but you get tired of it. If we go to PA it is cool but the anthracite is terrible, it is like riding through coal dust.

Thanks Again.

John

i just rode forked about 3 weeks ago, yea the gate is locked, but still ways in there, he locked the gates because of the local law boys putting the pressure on him. it's an ok place to ride. We are hitting Silver this summer.

I cant believe someone from NY wants to drive down and ride in NJ!! With all the open land up there why come down here??? I dont get it,I want out of NJ cause its so crowded and you want to ride here??? I live here and have problems riding. Your more than welcome to come down and ride(to me at least), I cant see how its worth the trip. I might give Port E a try this weekend. Maybe NJ aint that bad ???? I dont think so

I live on the northern border of NY and NJ, only about 40 minutes from Manhattan so it is pretty populated here. There used to be over 1000 acres only 1/4 mile from my house, it was called "Serling Forest". I rode there for almost a decade and even though it was private it was more or less unpatrolled, the cops would look for guys who parked trailers on the edges and rode in but since we lived so close my friends and I would ride in. Now it is part of the state park system and is heavily patrolled. Years ago the damn tree huggers managed to make many state parks (including this one) off limits to ALL motorized vehichles including snowmobiles. It was a great place to ride, very challenging, one guy we knew used it for practice for the infamous Blackwater race. The problem is sometimes you want to be able to ride without bashing off a rock every ten feet. Down at P.E. we were able to ride the trails faster and also blast down that sweet sand road. Believe me, I have no great love for NJ but at least you could ride without wondering if you were going to be the one coming back with a flat or a smashed skid plate every time you rode. Good Luck with your ride, please let me know how you made out.

John
