Yes - According to the Black Hills National Forest people there are about 5000 miles of trail / roads throughout the Black Hills available to ATV's.

I recently did some research into this. Order the map first. (below)
With it in hand you may want to take the advise of the rangers as most need help correctly understanding it - it does seems a little cryptic.

From Rick Hudson - Whom was my first contact,
"We have a lot of areas that are open for ATV use. We don't
have any specific trails that are marked for ATV riding however. Purchase
of a Forest map will provide some good information and some of the ranger
districts may have additional information they can provide you. One
district that I think has some good information is our Mystic District
headquartered in Rapid City, SD. I've cc'd this message to their rec
foresters and maybe one of them can provide additional information. I'd
suggest you order a copy of this map and then call one of them or myself
and we can talk while looking at the map. Holler with more questions !”

These links should get you to an order form for the map and additional information on
the Black Hills N.F.:

From Ranger Scott Spleiss-

Give me a call after you receive your map. I can help you with areas
to ride and areas to stay clear of. The map is very informative but can be
a challenge to understand. My phone is 605-343-1567.

Good luck and congratulations on you wedding.

Some Pics - not for slow connections

FYI - Both of these guys were first class helpful and friendly.
Be prepared to get a ear full regarding open fires. They are VERY serious about
NOT burning down their forest.... Good.

When are you planning to come to the hills? I ride in the hills all the time and there are some awsome trails. Right now the trails are closed because of the snowmobiles until may 1st. The best time to ride is in late may and early june (thats when there is alot of mud and alot of baby animals to watch also. My hubby's family homesteaded in the hills so we know it pretty well so if you need help getting around or just want some advise on where to go just contact me.
We live in Belle Fourche and Spearfish area, but also have a cabin over on the wyoming side of the black hills.
There is some trails that go thro the old gold mines and on top of Spearfish Canyon.
Or there is some that follow ridges that u can see 4 states from it's really awsome!!!
The map is helpful but there are alot of logging roads that are not marked so that is why it gets kinda confusing and like my father in-law says the forest service only knows of half of the trails here.
Would be glad to show you around or just some awsome places to ride.
