Need update on Wellsville
#11
I saw on the news yesterday (8-27-02) that a person in Wellsville was found dead (murdered) in his house. The police chief said everybody referred to the guy as "Hillbilly". Could that be the guy who has been written about in this forum?

My guess would be that they are one and the same. "Hillbilly" seemed to be a pretty famous nickname for the guy who has been causing problems at the ride area. I'm sorry to hear that. If it is the same person, he must have had more than just angry riders mad at him. If you find out any more info, fill us in.

Sorry guys, I have been out of commission lately and extremely busy. Your friend, backseatrider, is now on council in Wellsville. As soon as I get my feet wet and I am comfortable in these new waters, I plan on looking into doing things involving our "4-wheelin'" friends.
Craig Roberts aka Hillbilly has been murdered. Noone knows for sure who did it, but they possibly think it was someone in the house. I wouldn't want to be a detective on that case, the list of enemies has to be a mile long. One thing is for sure, you don't have to worry about someone impounding your bike with him gone. He and McCourt (who owns and operates Oaktree campsite) were buddies. Springer, who owns Forbidden Zone campsite, was feuding with Roberts.
The hubby took a ride this past weekend and said the place was "PACKED"! He estimated over 2,000 bikes there. Don't forget, the road going past the industrial park is a public road, the curbing there is not painted yellow. You could legally park along that road as long is you are not in violation of the Ordinance 99-23 which states that no person shall stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle which exceeds any of the following:
a) width of 84 inches
b) length of 156 inches
c) height of 90 inches
Hope this information helps. Again, my apologies for not responding sooner. If you are interested in keeping up to date on the Roberts (Hillbilly) case, you can read about it at www.reviewonline.com
Have a great one!

Good to hear from you Backseatrider and congratulations on getting involved with the city council. It is good to hear that we have a voice that can help us out. Also, thanks for the info on the parking regs. that will be useful. Is the parking area over the tracks open again, or is that still up in the air?

I don't know for sure about parking at the staging area. The road that went across the railroad tracks was taken out by the railroad. I don't think you could get a trailer over it, not to mention if you tried and got hung up on the tracks and a train comes.....well, not a happy ending for sure.
Of course, the 4 wheel drives can get up over it and most atvs, but getting your truck and trailer over it could be damaging and dangerous.
I haven't heard of anyone parking there or anyone being towed if they do. I will keep my ears open though and maybe ask some of the locals if anyone has been parking there.
Hope this helps!
