Default Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree

Iowahuntr; I've been to the Rocky Mtn ATV Jamboree three times. It is one fine experience! I plan on going again this year, having missed the last couple due to health. Make your camping/motel reservations early, as they fill up pretty early. They have a website that shows you past Jamboree photos, and lets you select which rides you can sign up for. Be sure and bring dust masks, as it can be mighty dusty if you aren't the lead rider. I've met a couple of Iowa riders (brothers) at the Jamboree, and people come from all over the place. You'll see hundreds of quads with every accessory known. Also, the ATV manufacturers will have their factory trailers there to show the latest models. There are many accessory dealers there as well. I'd seriously consider getting some leaner main jets for your carburetors, as the altitude causes some, but not all, quads to blubber so badly they wouldn't move at some of the peaks. My Honda Foreman needed rejetting, but not my Polaris Expedition. The 2-stroke machines are the most vulnerable. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips. There could be 8-10 of us going and we are going to meet next week to decide on what rides we are going to choose and what we need to bring and of course decide on what motel so we can get reservations asap. Sounds like a fun ride and we are looking foreward to going.

Iowahuntr; Many of the rides don't start in Richfield, so you need to keep in mind the need for transportation to Marysvale, Salida, Koosharem, etc. I've really enjoyed the rides out of Salida and Marysvale. The Rocky Mountain ATV website has many listings of motels. I've never stayed in them so I can't recommend one. I've stayed in the campground in Richfield and enjoyed that, as well as the one in Marysvale. The Marysvale one is inconvenient, as it is quite a drive to the morning gatherings and the coffee and rolls provided. The local Honda/Polaris dealer gets quite busy that week, so if you want to rejet you may want to do that back home. Riding through town on ATV's is allowed, and that is a nice feature. The Wal-Mart store runs out of rain ponchos once the weather turns ugly, as it has in some of the past events. Seems like the first winter front wants to come throught there during the Jamboree. The commoradarie is perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of the Jamboree. Hope you have a safe journey and rides.

Thanks for the suggestions, We are going to meet Tues or wed this week to finalize our plans. I'll be sure to share your info with the group and I'm sure it will be appreciated alot. I'm pretty sure we had decided on staying in Richfield or as close as we can this time . I'm looking foreward to the ride and if you have any rides you think are important for 1st timers " Jamboreer's I mean" Please share them with us. I'm going to check the local Honda dealer here as far as rejetting before we go or just get a k&N kit for my Rancher.. I'll have to see which one is a better deal in the long run. Most of us will be riding Ranchers with a few 300ex's also. 1 question I do have is how do you carry your extra fuel? The flat packs that I have seen are nice but....very pricey. If I have more questions in the future I'll post on here and hopefully we will maybe meet and say hello in Utah. Thanks...

Iowahuntr; With your Ranchers, I see no need for carrying extra fuel tanks. The longest ride I've had on the Jamboree had a gas pit stop arranged. Have you visited the Jamboree web site? If I recall correctly, they show the numbers of riders signed up for each ride. Of course, the more numbers, the more popular (better) ride. I'll have to visit the site to refresh my memory. They have many more rides than a few years ago, so I'm not familiar with all of them. I've never been on the one where they pan for gold, but that has been extremely popular. The overnight ride and wilderness cabin stay is also popular, but I've seen the accommodations and they lack a LOT! I'm sure I'll be reviewing the ride listings and if I see anything that is a *must*, I'll let you know. Be sure and bring a camera!

We called and got our rooms reserved for the Jamboree at the Romanico Inn in Richfield. Looks like 8 of us for sure with a couple of maybies depending on their work loads this summer. We have decided on a few rides with the only problem being Thurs. To many good rides that day to have to pick just 1 !!
I've been looking at GPS units on the web and I am thinking about purchasing one. Might be a good idea to have one along and one of the rides we are considering requires one for the group it sounds like. Anyway got alot of riding time yet to get ready for the trip and maybe a few pounds to lose 1st !!! Have fun riding ........

Iowahunter,
I just live over the mountain from the Jamboree. I ride the trails all the time. You need to jet your quad for 4000 ft above sea level. You'll be riding in elevations from 4,000 to over 12,000 ft. If you buy a K&N make sure you get the pre-filter for the dust. Bring heavy jackets and coats. In September the weather can be very cold at the higher elevations. Some rides have been in snow storms. Plan for all sorts of weather from sun to snow. We haven't received a lot of snow this winter so if our spring is dry too then the trails will be a major dust bowl. As for a couple of areas I really like is the Marysvale loop. This takes you up past Delano Peak at over 12,000 feet. There is a large heard of Mountain Goats which range there. I have seen them everytime I have made the loop. (bring your binoculars). Another ride is east of Salina to the San Rafel Swell. You drop off at the Eva Connover road, then head north east past sids mountain, then over to the Devil's Race Track (rough). Onto Swayzies cabin and then loop back around under eagle canyon bridge and back to the eva connover road. Beautiful ride with some challanging spots. You won't be disappointed in any of the rides.
