Hangtime dont let that get you down. La dunes is great for a weekend trip. Its no Little Sahara, Glamis, or Oregon Dunes. ITs good for a weekend trip. Try it one weekend and you make the decision. Try on one of the holiday weekends just get there early Friday. Sometimes they smooth the dunes out and the drag racing becomes an all out king of the hill. I dont think it will be a complete bummer for you to come here. Just a long trip for you. The next big weekend will be easter then 4th of July.
