Rattlesnake Bay Closing

Has anybody seen today's Hattiesburg American? On the front page there is an article
about the National Forest and logging. It has Greenpeace and Friends of little woodland
creatures saying Mississippi's forests are endangered. They say it is hurting nature and
recreational opportunities for people. Bird watching, hiking, tree hugging, etc.
Don't cut trees, don't drill for gas and oil, and don't take your atv in the woods.
This is just what they need to try and shut down atv riding on national forest land.
I don't want to ride every inch of government land, everyone should be able to hike, bike,
walk, picnic, hunt, fish, canoe, swim, and so on. But we are taxpayers, American
citizens and have rights too. I am going to try to get some email addresses so we can
let our voices be heard. Nothing like a good vent session. Depending on the weather,
Austin and I are still going to try to make Tiger Creek Saturday. Probably post something
Friday if it changes. RIDE ON

Hey man let me know if you find the email addresses. I'd like to give em a tree to hug, and tell em my opinions about how my tax paying dollars go to some hippie thats sitting in a tree trying to keep it from being cut down. My idea is cut the darn thing down with them in it. Anyway sorry just got rowled up. But seriously drop the emails and I think we all can give em a word or two.

As of right now, there is no timetable, so they say it is closed indefinitely. But I did talk to someone from the U.S. Forest Service and they said it would be opened back up one day, but didn't know when. The reason for closing it is due to erosion and what they call abuse of the trail. I think what caused the most erosion is the logging that took place. It is mostly cutover now and I think when it was logged, it helped cause erosion. I rode it last summer and I really didn't see too many problem areas there. But when they are talking about erosion, they are talking about silt hurting some endangered species of plants along drainage areas and creeks. Tiger Creek in Ovett is going to get a Contractor to repair some of the trails and fix some creek crossings. But if they spend a lot of money to fix it and it gets messed up again, they'll close it down for good. I know a lot of people like mud, but in order to ride on the National Forests, we need to take some responsibility and stick to the trails and try not to damage sensitive areas like creek crossings.

Hey, gang. Hope everyone is doing well- haven't heard from anyone this week. Ya'll must be
like me and have to work for a living. Oh well, not everybody can be rich and goodlooking.
That's two strikes against me. Some say riding a Honda is the third. Look at your calenders
and see when we can roll again. If you want to hit Tiger Creek one more time, go to the sand
at Beaumont or if someone has another spot. Throw out some dates and see what it looks
like. I know alot of people have vacations and stuff going on but maybe we can work something out. I should be free most weekends in July, can swing a Friday if need be.
If anyone has any ideas, lets hear them. Who knows one might be good! RIDE ON

How about July 4-6? We could go to the huntsville pipeline that is located just inside the state line of AL from Clarke County. Its miles and miles of wide open pipelines that offer great challenges for the hill climbers, and some nice terraces for the jumpers. There is a nice dirt pit that us sports quad riders would enjoy and also a few good mudholes that the mudders could enjoy. I'll call the people over the pipeline and make sure that camping is ok before I say that we could camp on the trails but even if we couldn't camp on the trails then it would be cool to camp at one of the two lakes in Quitman. They offer electric and water as well as showers. If anyone is interested in camping we will camp otherwise its not far from our house and we will just travel and meet for one or more of the days. We really like to camp and think that makes the riding more fun but if no one else can make the camp then we'll just sleep at home and ride when ever you guys want.
If you have any other day/days that would be better in July then let me know. We are open for every weekend in July except 25 through the 2nd of August which we will be going to Kentuck atv trails in Alabama. Its 60 miles east of Birmingham and offers some nice trails to ride and good camping. We will be riding with a club from Floridia. We will leave there on the 27th and head out for the Great Smokey Mountains where we plan to ride some of the trails in and around that area. If anyone is interested in going let me know and we will plan to drive out together. Hope to see some of you. Anyway let me know about the Huntsville ride, and we'll get something going. Later guys.

Sounds good Smitty. Hey guys I got a few new pics posted on our site but the aren't thumbnailed so it might take em a little while to down load. Hey if you guys go to the Red Creek area do you think you will camp? Its a good ride for us so we would probley like to camp if they allow it. I'll check with Bernie and see about the camping. Heck we could always camp at the Bethal trail head. Its a good campsite but the trails suck unless you are riding a dirt bike. They are too narrow. Heck being that close to the coast we could always hit a motel room on the beach. Yepiiii. Wonder what they'd think about us slamming down the beach on our quads at 50+ mph? Anyway we are game for anything as long as it has something to do with riding quads. Hey smitty only bad thing about the trails in Talledaga is that they require helmets. My wife and I just went out and bought new ones today at Laurel Yamaha. They have some of the nicer Fulmers on sale for 69.00 and the HJC's for 83.00. Hope that you get to go with us to Kentuck cause the more people the better.
