You hit the nail on the head, and it's gonna stay there till I head down to the Oregon coast August 7th, riding behind 5 or 6 quads in a dust storm is no fun, coughing up dirt for days hehehe

WE went riding last weekend up to some of the lookouts by Prichard. We haven't been out much as family members have been having surgeries. Brad is in Seattle this week with his mom and Heather and i are headed to Boise to visit family. So its not a matter of not WANTING to ride its a matter of finding time to.
As far as the dust--we just wait for the dust to clear between machines. May take a bit longer but it beats working HEHE!!

Keep on riding
Kori

Boy was it hot this week.
Ended up going riding south of Ellensburg, up about 5800-6000 feet, it was cool and comfy up there.
Went down to Ellensburg for some supplies, WOW was it hot down there, couldn't wait to get back up to camp.
Great riding up there and way beautiful.
Trails were down right Brutal. More rock fields than I've ever seen. Tough riding, but way to much fun.
==================

Jay,

Sure hope you are feeling better

Do you do much riding up about 5000-6000 ft?
If so, how do your Rinnies run?
Mine ran really really crappy up there, way to lean in that thin air?
I even cleaned my air filter before riding.
If you change your jetting for that elevation, what do you change to, or what else do you do?? If anything.

I'm going to get a service manual also.

Thanks a Bunch

Quad4fun;

Remember, high elevation means thin air, and thin air means less air. In order to get the mixture right up there at those elevations, you need to lean out the carburation. This means a smaller main jet.

Then when you come back down into the more dense air, don't forget to go back up on the main jet. The denser air, coupled with the smaller fuel jet will give you a lean mixture. The lean mixture will burn too hot.

It is better to be a bit rich than too lean. Being way too rich fouls plugs,,but being way too lean fries holes in pistons.

One other thing to remember is that cold air is denser than hot air.

Ragged would probably be the guy to ask about this stuff since he snowmobiles. Those guys are always adjusting the jetting for altitude as well as for ambient air tempurature.

My Brother and I just returned from the White mountain wilderness... incredible! We were camped right on sherman creek ....had the creek in our front yard for 2 days! We basically had the place to ourselves. The riding was typical forest road riding and some side hill stuff. Nothing technical but the views and area were incredible. We are planning a trip up to dry canyon and Mt. Molybdenite in the Grizzly bear recovery area in Pond Orille county, also riding around deception lake. This area is considered to be the most rugged country in Eastern Washington by the Dept. of Fish and Game. We are planning to go week after next. Once again the riding and scenery will be unquestionably awesome. Also I have never failed to see lots of game; bear, moose, deer... etc. in this area. Anyone interested...consider your self welcome. Later...Pastor

Ragged,

We were up at Quartz Mountain, South of Ellensburg. Rode mostly all trails, only a small portion of the roads are open for riding. We were able to jump on the trails from where we were camped. They were 4WD trails, kinda brutal in spots, but were pretty fun. We rode to Lost Lake and Shoestring Lake. All the trails are mapped out on the Forest Service maps.

Jay,

Thanks for the info.
Since you have the same quad, I was wondering if you changed your jetting at all for that elevation on your Rincon. If so, what jet you used. Thought that would give me a place to start. I'll just find a service manual and ask the service guys I usually call.

Thanks a Bunch guys
