Rhino 660 just got it....towing/winching advice
#1
Hello,
I have just bought a 2005 Rhino 660. It is green, has new radials, stereo, 3000IB Warn winch, metal roof and half windscreen. So far I love it (had it 2 days) as far as driving around in it.
First off, after I bought it (but before delivery) I seemed to find lots of rolling horror stories, this has worried me so I'm still going carefully. But I have to say I think it appears it will go over easily.
I've come from a Honda 450 Foreman which I still have to sell. I use the Honda mainly for hauling trees out of the woods and plowing snow, then general jobs around my property so the Rhino is supposed to be taking over. However, Ive been told NOT to haul tree because the belt will snap, now I'm thinking I should have stuck with the Honda. I have to pull them maybe 50-100 ft at the maximum. The biggest I've pulled with the Honda would be maybe 12 ft long and about 15 inch diameter. How heavy that is in IB's I have no idea.
Basically, I want to know what your experiences are with hauling/winching. I am HUGELY impressed with the Honda and it gets some tough jobs done with ease. Now I'm thinking I will be cutting the trunks up into really small pieces to get them out so the Rhino just wont cut it. I don't want to find out what its capable of, or not, by the belt snapping!
I also want to know, is it best to hook a tree trunk up with the winch and reverse with it, or should I hook a chain up onto the back and pull it out by driving forwards?
Please advise as I am not thinking I've made an expensive mistake!
Thanks,
CB

The Rhino has a towing capacity of 1200lbs. We have dragged plenty of people out of the mud with ours. You won't snap the belt. If you are trying to pull a house maybe. The Rhino will do it just fine. As far as roll overs, use some common sense on the machine and you will keep it upright. If by any chance you want to make it Blue, I got some plastics.

I think reverse has a bit more torque. I would try putting it in low and put a strap on the hitch in the back. If that causes any wheel slippage then try reverse. These things are very capable machines. FYI, the 05-06 models had a little problem with them acting like they are out of gas. Just replace the inline fuel filter behind the passenger seat.
