Default Warrior ?, Valve or Carb issue?

I am going to look at an 87 warrior this weekend. The guy claims it idles rough because the carbs need to be cleaned. This very well could be true but it could also be burnt or bent valves. Are warriors known for burnt valves or bad cams? Does anyone know of tests I can due before I buy it to try and determine whether it is a carb or valve problem? He claims it clears up above idle. I am also suspect maybe a vacuum leak.

The bike is in my price range so if it is a carb issue I can deal with it, otherwise I don't think I want to get involved.
