Default Raptor Clutch Basket question?? Help.

On the clutch basket or " Part #3AJ-16150-00-00 PRIMARY DRIVEN GEAR COMP(71T) (U49)" there is a plastic gear on the back and a steel gear. These two are connected together. Should there be any movement? If I grab either of the two gears I can rotate them front or backwards maybe 1/4". Also on the brass sleeve in the middle of the basket where it slides on the main axle shaft there is a crack almost all the way through the brass colored sleeve from front to the back of the basket. When the basket and clutch boss are all bolted up I can wiggle the basket. To me, this should not happen and the gears should not rotate on the back of the basket even 1/4". Do you know if this is normal?

Thanks

Default Raptor Clutch Basket question?? Help.

I just put a new Hinson basket and Sparks clutch kit in mine. I didn't do a specific check, but I do not remeber any movement in them. I broke a tooth off my basket and it was cracket from the chip all the way to the center. I was talking to Bob Craycraft about this, and he said that if you have to get a new one of those gears (which, imo, it sounds like you do) you have to buy a complete clutch basket assembly from Yamaha for $225. You might want to get some second opinions, though, because I am only a junior in high school, although I do consider myself fairly smart.

I don't know if this was of any help but I hope it was.

Later,

Default Raptor Clutch Basket question?? Help.

I have an email into Bob right now. Waiting on his reply. The crack in the bronze colored center of the basket is enough for me to buy a new basket. Yes I do need the whole basket. Your reply was much appreciated. The hinson basket comes with the gears on the back right? And can be used with the stock clutch boss and pressure plate? Pardon my ignorance. Thanks.

The Hinson basket does not come with the gears on the back. You have to either grind off the heads of the rivets, or do like I did and drill them off then tap them out with a punch. And don't worry, I don't think you're ignorant. After all, I don't think I could put a cam in mine (I don't want to mess anything up) Hope everything works out. I ended up spending $400 dollars just on fixing my clutch.

Also, on your question about the Hinson basket being compatible with the stock boss and pressure plate, they do work together just fine.

Default Raptor Clutch Basket question?? Help.

Janssen Racing in Wisconsin sells a billet basket made to the same specs as the Hinson for around $160. We've tried them, and I won't buy anything else......
