That's a major Bummer bubba! I have my own theory as to why this happened and I don't think it was a weak or poorly designed rod. Hope your running soon.

What main jets did you end up running? I don't think these engines can tolerate excessive piston temps. from lean fuel mixtures and/or tight fitting pistons. I know your piston probably had a little extra clearence but your jetting after the dyno tuning seemed real lean to me. JMHO

Big bubba- That sucks!!

The rod deal is scary because there is no logic in the failures, or commom threads

They wouldn't leave me running lean the dyno would show it and I would make way less HP. Also it would of blown on the top end and not at the bottom of the RPM's.

Actualy, I'm under the impression that if slightly lean it will make more hp than rich. But, I don't know that, thats what happened, I think it's just one more of many weak links in the Raptor. Just one more reason the Raptor comes so detuned. They (Yamaha) knew the tranny would not hold up, I wouldn't be surprised if they felt the rod would not either. jmo.

Yup I did, I might slap some bigger jets in there after I get it fixed.

I just called JE and my 102mm 12.1 piston hasn't shipped yet and wont until Tuesday and Im wondering if I should scale back and just go with the 11.1, I will also run a high rev cam (stage2 hotcams) Does anybody think the higher compression ratio is to blame? Does the 12.1 really give that much more performance? BTW how much are the carillo rods for the raptor?

I was running 11:1 stock bore when my rod grenaded my cases. The carrillo is $150 direct from carrillo, plus the labor to get the crank work done to install it and true everything up. Probably another $100 or more.

My mistake. The Carrillo rod is $175 from carrillo direct. Free shipping if in california.
