I just changed my tranny over from 01 to 02 and figured while I have it apart why not play a little. I went w/ 11-1 JE, stage 1 hotcam a 1mm larger center intake valve ported the head (mildly) And already had a gytr slip on with a pro design filter (foam) bottom and mid seem ok but no different but top is just ok. To top it all off I just got smoked by a bone stock predator in a drag went on pavement for half mile and he kept pulling away my jetting is 165 170 I live in Ohio could this be the problem I am STUMPED!

 

Does anyone have any jetting or needle suggestions for this set up? I think I am out 2 turns on my air screw could it make that much of a difference. That predator really smoked my a@# and with my first real run on the new motor I still cannot believe it!

 

I have a suggestion.

Buy a real quad.

Are you running with or without an airbox lid? And what is your elevation?

 

First of all, you should have SMOKED HIM....with that pipe, and piston, filter combo your looking at 45+hp....now, were you running High-grade gas? You have to or you'll detonate, also, i don't remember my jetting, but the piston should have no effect on jetting, just go with the rec. pipe jetting. also, be careful, cause you connecting rod may snap now. Next, I'de say it was your shifting, because were you granny shifting, or doing like you should and holding the throttle open, and bliping the clutch to rip gears?
anyhow, that is a sad loss for the raptors because the fool now has the most important thing "bragging rights" ....."haha raptors are slow" or "yeah, i beat modded raptors with my stock pooplairs" ect....please don't let this happen again.

 

With or without lid with your mods, no stock predator will be close. Somthing is wrong. Is the timing correct? Did you line up all the marks on the cam gear? Who ported the head? If it was done wrong it will affect the performance. When I had the same mods as you, less the larger intake valve and porting. I would easily smoke stock and piped predators up any competeition/olds hill I raced them on by an easy 5+ quad lengths. Flat lands would be no different, though if your not geared differently top speed would suffer. If you can't notice a difference from piped and jetted then somthing is very wrong. Pay no attention to the DS guy. Most are cool and helpful, some aren't. This clown was considering a Raptor before he bought his DS. He's had some problems with his DS but since he didn't buy the Raptor he feels the need to bash what he didn't buy just like a 16 year old, oh wait, he is a 16 year old. Bring your little stage 1 RWR quad on over Tyree, I'll show you what a fast Raptor can do.

I don't know why I bothered to allow myself to get dragged into these things. Freaking kids. Most on here are cool and well educated in the ways of respect. Some are just doltz.

PS. Unless you know this guy, he could very well have lied to you about his mods. He may have the 530?580? kit. Never ran against one of those, couldn't tell you what they'd do. But, if you feel no difference from piped then somthing is way wrong regardless.

What air box mods? If your using the lid that may be alot of the problem. Cam timing could be off but I think it would run even worse than it is. Is your pipe in good condition, spark arrester clean, packing in place and in good shape. Could be a crappy port job.
