What kind of maintenance does a banshee require
#1
I've always heard 2-strokes require more work to keep running. I have also heard a lot of BS in my life. What kind of maintenance on a banshee is necessary to keep it in top shape?

I have heard this same thing all the time, I dont know what they are talking about.
You change the tranny oil every few rides or so, lube the chain, typical maintenance on any quad.
I also hear people say they dont like having to mix the oil, I dump one 16 oz container in and then pump 4 gallons of gas in, walla 32:1 ratio. I dont think it is so tough. Maybe I am missing something.
Really there is not any more maintenance then anything else, if you use good oil you should not have to do a top end job for quite awhile. I have heard of people with 92's still on the stock top end. Use good oil and take care of the machine and it will last.
Sorry to ramble on.

Banshees Can be as reliable as any other quad. My son has a 96 that is still on the stock bore.
I have a 99 that is 0.040 over and has been rebuilt 3 times. It also puts out over 70 horsepower, while my son's is in the mid 40's.
I know of a couple of 4 strokes that have had head gasket problems, but they are modded quite heavily.

I run Yamalube 2R also. I've tried other oils, but always go back to the Yamalube 2R. It does the job, keeps the motor clean, and is cost effective. I've had one motor sieze when I was running another brand of oil (not Yamalube 2R) which I feel was partly due to the oil not doing its job.
I run Bel-Ray gear saver 80W in the tranny. Works.
