Default Need Help Converting To Alcohol On Craycraft 686

Most of you are aware of what I have in my quad, and those of you who do will be the most helpfull.... I feel the need for more power and think that converting to methanol will be the way to go.... I bought a #43 drill bit and will drill out a couple of mikuni mains to start with... basically because i dont know where to start...... Should i leave me stage 2 needles alone ? move the clips ? put the mikuni's back in ? if so where do the clips go ?

So ya ready huh? You need an indexed set of numbered drill bits. Find the one that fits in the jets you have now, snuggly. Now measure it with a dial caliper. Take that measurement and double it. Find a drill bit that size and drill out a seperate jet. Now do they same thing to the other carb. This will get you real close, but just a tad rich. You can then work your way down from there. Be VERY carefull not to get too lean. Alky and lean don't mix. You are supposedly able to very easily here it ping if it is too lean. Your needles "should" be ok.

say your first jet measures 1", get a drill bit that measures 2" and drill out another jet that size.

If you want to see how it does I beleive you can take out your mains and run like that.

Mine will be done next week. If I can find some Lectrons it might not be though.

What I said I think I found out was wrong. Doubling the size of the bit isn't correct. Alky needs twice the flow of gas, but not twice the size hole. It should be 40% larger.
read this page, under fuel flow
But I have heard of people doubling it....????

Ward...alcohol is very forgiving if you are running it too lean. The bike will just lose power. Ask Dollarbillz..he is the ATPT expert on alcohol. I'm sure he can shed some light on the subject.
