Just unloaded my new YZF450

I am going to do some riding this weekend, then next weekend we are going to Silver Lake Sand Dunes. This weekend will consist of a 440ex, 425ex, Banshee, Warrior, and a Z400, possibly a few 250rs. It will be a small mx track and some woods riding. I should have a good impression of the quad and some feedback from other riders.

Glad to see somebody finally really did get one. Instead of another b.s. story. That quad looks awesome, congrats. It reminds me of my z as far as looks but it just looks a little wider and more sturdy. Just from looks alone it looks like a superior handling quad. I like how you just said you unloaded it and you rode it and it felt quick (which I'm sure you know it's faster than heck ). You didn't flame other quads or anything like some of the more negative guys on here. I bet when you get it broke in that sucker will fly like nothing else in stock form. I can't wait to read a review from you and how it rides. Do you have a gps? I know top speed ain't real important but I just like to read stuff like that. I hope you do a few drags with all those quads you ride with and post the results (although I kind of hate to see the z get it's butte handed to it). Oh I also love the color scheme and the red frame is way sweet. Good luck and don't get killed with that beast.

Got mine yesterday!!! I can't believe one showed up in Alaska before other places. I ordered a blue one which is great because that was the only one to arrive. I have only ridden it around the neighborhood(about 10 times!!) but it seems to pull pretty hard. Look at my other quads, I have a feel for what is fast and what isn't. HERE'S THE SCOOP SO FAR: Great powerband...pulls hard from low to top...not as hard on bottom as CT piped Raptor but harder on top. Pulls way harder on bottom to low-mid than Predator and similar hard pull on top. Much wider powerband than my Predator and it revs quicker than all of them. Throttle response is instant!!! Motor does feel a little "corked" like it is not breathing as well as it could...can't wait for a pipe/jet/filter. Everything I have is piped fairly loud so in stock form it sounds pretty wimpy...will surprise you though. Suspension feels pretty good from what i can tell. Weight balance feels really good..doesn't excessively wheelie like a Raptor but comes up fairly easy...much easier than the Predator. It really seems pretty damn good. First gear seems tall but good...transmission shifts great, gear spacing great.
NOW THE NOT SO GOOD: Seat is really hard...easy to move around on and narrow...but hard!!! Skid plates are the cheesiest I have ever seen...very flimsy. Swingarm probably works well but they could have finished it better. The plastic actually goes by the radiator and forms air scoops...not sure if I like it or not. Seat latch is a pile...expect it to break off. It is plastic. Bars could be slightly taller.
I'm riding it tomorrow where I can really get a feel for it. We ride cross country and woods...not mX. If anyone is interested in more info, let me know. i'll be back on my computer monday.

O.K., I rode it for about 2 hrs yesterday on trails. These are woods trails with a lot of mixed terrain. Sections of it have a lot of mud, ruts and rocks and there are also more open sections. We ran them at a fairly fast pace though. Here is what my thoughts were riding this quad after riding the Predator so far this year:
It is a blast to ride, very quick, very light though I didn't have the confidence I had on the Predator which is much wider and heavier than the YFZ. That is mostly due to not being familiar with the quad. I really liked it overall. The power was good...will be really good with a pipe. I loved being able to throw it around easier than the Predator. 1st gear is tall for what we do here. It will be a bitch to start on a steep rutted hill and will require a lot of slipping the clutch. It is really good for fast starts on flat ground in my opinion. Suspension was set-up soft...I like it but more aggressive guys will need to stiffen it up. I only jumped it about 4 ft. high wound out in 3rd and it was awesome at that and I was confident had I had something bigger to jump it would have done really well. Very easy to control in the air. SEAT IS REALLY HARD!!!! Overall it felt small to me again maybe because I came off a Predator. The bars felt way too low for me and the footpegs felt too far forward and too high for me. I will put on Pro Pegs when they are available. We ride a lot standing up and I felt hunched over too much. I am 5'11". I will also probably get an extended steering stem +1 or +2 to help out. I could wheelie it instantly without any practice for long distances, it has a very good balance to me. I don't know why but my thumb was hurting after an hour of riding...throttle doesn't feel stiff but for some reason that got to me. I can't wait until parts are available to fine tune it. PRM is supposed to have skid plates and bumpers ready to ship to me next this week. I ran into the other one that was sold locally from a different dealer (There are 3 running around now from Anchorage, Ak) and he had 2 hrs on his. He is a racer and loved it. Apparently coming off an "R" he was not disappointed at all. I think we can pick away at anything but overall this quad is awesome!!! The motor pulls well and I know it has to be corked up quite a bit. Good luck and you are definitley going to like it. It is sort of like a better handling Z400 on steroids.
