What makes my 250 slower than others? lol
Hi,
I have a yamaha timberwolf 250, 2wd, and as we all know these are utility/trail or whatever based quads. Well, i quit riding it when i started driving like a year and a half ago, i mean i still rode it, but like once every month or 2. Well i pulled it out of the garage to start getting it ready to sell, but now i started having all these ideas that seem like too much fun to pass up lol. I've been wanting to do a go-cart for a while, but i dont think i'll use this for that, expecially since it's shaft driive. This thing runs really strong, its real tourqey, but i mean its got nothing above probably 40 or 45 mph. I'm 17, and i'm really interrested in learning to work on motors and vehicles and stuff, which i am also learning with my mustang 5.0 i just got. So, is there any way for me to tinker with this thing and get it running stronger? I dont know mucha bout the ATV aftermarket, but can i change the gearing maybe? I mean what made 250rs and quadsports or whatever fast and this so slow? Gotta be the gearing right? Maybe these dont rev as high? Please give your suggestions. I still dont know if i want to try to make it fast just for fun or if i want to sell it and use the money (i could probably get like 1000 or so out of it) for my stang. So, just give me your ideas or critisism. Thanks.

the only way to change the gearing on a shaft drive quad is by changing the tire size. Larger tires give more top speed and smaller tires give you quicker acceleration. What year is it. You should be able to get 1500 for it if it is in good shape.

I think it is a 95. I sortof inherited it from a crazy driver lol. The bar on the front is bent, but i can end it bak right i believe, and like the plastic around the lights in the front is cracked, not a huge deal. Brakes need fixed. No pull start (i didn't do it....dont even know why he did...), other than that it is just dirty. I am looking to get it painted probably a dark green, it will be good paint, not some junk spray can. I dunno, its not perfect, but it isn't bad, i'll prolly get like a grand. But then again, i live in arkansas, lots of hunters, might get more.
