dependability of the Banshee
Banshees can be very reliable.
We just tore the top end down on my son's '96 which is still on the stock bore. The cylinders looked good as did the pistons. Minimal amount of wear. The rings were showing some wear and needed replacing. The cylinders showed some were around the edges of the ports caused by the rings as they would pass over the ports. Other wise the top end looked very good for a '96.
We tore it down to port the cylinders and get a little more power out of it.
My own '99 has been rebuilt 3 times now and is 0.040" over on the bore. Once, some sand got sucked into the motor, and another time the left side piston siezed due to a reed cage bolt coming out allowing air to be sucked into the motor creating a lean condition. The only other rebuild came about from too many hours on the pistons. Apparently a ring let go, caught a port and created some havock inside the motor. Broke a piston on that one. However, my own Banshee is ported and stroked and puts out some decent hp numbers. I'd expect to have a little more maintenance on it.
Banshee can be as reliable as any other machine, including 4 strokes. I know of a couple of Raptors that are built that have had head gasket problems. One machine has been apart as many times as my own Banshee in about the same amount of time.
With proper jetting, a good two stroke oil (I use Yamalube 2R and have for 4+ years and haven't had a problem with it - just always mix it at 32:1), keep the air filter clean, change the tranny oil frequently, and overall good maintenance, you'll not be disappointed.
If Banshees are jetted extremely fat, you shouldn't have a problem fouling plugs. We sometimes go all year (spring, summer, fall) on the same plug.
Ain't nuth'n like a Banshee (except maybe a built Raptor like my friends 770 - that thing hauls the mail...).

dependability of the Banshee
I really believe that I do want a two stroke, It fits my riding style perfect, Like I said in my first post I had a Tri-z 250, I loved it but it was very unreliable. The reason it was so bad is the guy I bought it from told me that the motor had only been re rung one time and was completely perfect. I blew a ring off of the piston one evening racing a piped raptor ( needless to say I was winning )! when I got the jug off it had already been bored 80over so that could have had something to do with it
thanks alot
thanks alot
