well now youre makin me think that maybe they turned the idle down too much and were blowing boots off before they delivered them. As I recall, you bought yours new like i did. May '01.
I cant tell you the number of raptor folks i've met with their idle speed too slow...the damm thing's not a model t ford, it's not meant to idle at 400 rpms. as you know, it needs the idle speed for lubrication and cooling. with a dry sump and pressurized cooling system like a race car, it needs rpms to function. listen to Champ cars and Formula one cars - the design is similar. no kidding.

I been in automotive for most of my life and the most ignored item next to the oil level is the owners manual! and thats the truth. hey i should write a book.

I did turn my idle up only because of what was read on these forums, it didn't seem low to begin with though. My raptor has never backfired like some users have quoted! Was my idle turned up all ready?

neither has mine. curious.
a friend in europe says the 01's are highly coveted there as their gear ratios make them the 'fastest raptor' when it comes to racing.
