Default Raptor Electrical???? Please Read

Hello Everyone,

My Raptor is not running right. Sometimes it starts and other times it does not. Sometimes it runs ok, but most of the time it cuts out on the top end. However it is getting worse not better. I have not changed any jetting or added any parts. It is bone stock, even the filter. I am going to list everything I can say about it below and maybe someone can provide me with some input.

I would appreciate all the help. Thank you.

-Not the carburartors, I have taken them apart like 4 times. They are perfect.
-the spark plug cap tested fine.
-The fuel is new.
-A while back it would run then die. Not start until you left it sit for like an hour. It did not get to hot though. Normal temp.
I was in a race (the florida GNCC) running fine, infact got the holeshot. Went about 4 miles. running fine. Stalled it and it
would never start again. Got towed in. Let it sit. started to run fine again.
-Now it will not even start. Maybe tomorrow it will.
-It will back fire really loud somtimes when I am trying to start it.

Help Please? It is killing me.

Sincerely,

Robbie

Have you checked the choke cable yet? the spring rots away if water gets in very quickly. Also check the parking brake switch at the clutch lever, or disconnect the wire leading to it.

Also check your vent hose, take the cap off and blow through the hose to see if its blocked.

Also change the plug, Mine went bad last year with the similar symptoms. First time I ever had one go out on a 4 stroke.

Thank you I will try those things. tonight. Yea I am going to replace the plug. This did all start happening after a really bad mud race. I know what you are talking about on the Choke thing. I replaced the spring and cleaned the hell out of that part.

So I can just disconnect the parking brake wire? What they just get a short in them?

And as far and the Plug, yea I never had one like go out "Go out" on a four stroke, but when I took the long cap off it was all wet and muddy down there. Which is weird because I did not ride it or mess with it for like 2 months. Which means it was like that the whole time. Wet.

Thank you.

My Valves can make it run like that? See I was thinking that was not it. Because sometimes it did ok and sometimes not. So I was thinking the valves would be more consistant.?

One time my Raptor had the same backfiring problem and I would have to crank it over alot longer than I should have had to, then I checked the valves and the intakes were wayyy to tight, so I adjusted them to spec and it never happened again. I do probably need to check them again though.....

Hope this helps

You should probably check them anyway, and hell, if its all torn down to do valves it makes changing the plug all that much easier. Also clean out that plug hole as much as you can, when putting the wire back on put a thin film of dialectric grease around the boot and seat it fully to keep moisture out.
