Default carb boot blew off again....more suggestions???

thanks guys, those were the post i was lookin for. I dont need to take off the fenders and tank to get to the air/fuel screws do i?

ps. when the dust gets into the engine, where does it actually go. Wouldnt it just get mixed in with the oil? what actually happens. wouldnt it have to be gritty dirt to do damage or no? thanks for the reply. im gonna try this tomorow. MX is so much fun!!!

On the dust issue....the dust goes into the cylinder, some is sucked right out the exhaust valve, and some maybe got between the piston and cylinder for some, at most, minor scarring. If you are really concerned, you can get a compression / leak down tester at the local parts store. If it's not smoking I would'nt worry about it though....can't do anything about it anyway unless you rebuild the top end.
On the adjustment screws....you can get a small flat swrewdriver in there, but it's a real pain and you can't really tell if you are turning the screws. Best bet is take everything off, flip the carbs over and do it right.

do i do the adjustment to both carbs or just the one? even if damage was done, it still wouldnt be useless to do freqent oil changes and warm it up would it. Is there anything left to preserve from giving it the xtra care?

Both carbs.....remember, counterclockwise....about 1-1.5 turns from the current position. Anything other than general maintenance is gonna be useless.....if possible damage was done it is permanent. Additional maintenance will not cure the problem.

Like I said, if it's not smoking....I would not worry about it IMO.

o i know doing maintenance wont undue the damage. but what im asking is, if the damgage is already done, then does doing things like frequent oil changes help preserve anything else. Or is the one and only thing that oil changes give longevity to already damaged.

Basically what im saying is that people change their oil for a reason. Im pretty sure that reason is giving the engine better protection, etc. But if the part of the engine that the frequently changed oil gives better protection to is already damaged, is it worth doing frequent oil changes still. Are there other parts of the engine that will benefit from the better protection frequent oil changes will give it? or is there nothing left for the fresh oil to protect that would make a difference? i hope this makes some sense, thank you for the help as usual. warrior86

THe reason for oil changes is oil will breal down and not work like it supose too and protect the motor so changing the oil frequenty will make your motor last longer

yeah thats what i thought. thats why i change the oil in my truck every 2000. i mean, its gonna last longer with the maintenance than without but its still gonna be less than if the dust never got in(worst case scenario) its just gonna take longer to do more wear than the dust did. thanks. just wondering, approx how much $ is a top end rebuild?

Not that this is going to help but look at my photo page. My carbs came from the factory with these TY straps attached. There is two linked together on each carb. Mine have never popped off and these straps are pulled very tight and I do mean very. Mine would be I guess considered a mid 01 Raptor. I did up the idle because what I had read here on the forums in the past.

well one of my other problems is when i pulll the carb towards the boot, i cant get it as deep as yours are in. you could still see about half of the hollow part of that groove. I dont wanna rip the carbs off or something. Maybe thats my problem. there not all the way on? is there something i can use to find out the rpm;s? thanks
