sometimes my 450 hits neutral when going to 2nd gear. Almost everyone I let ride it notices it also. I seems to be worse when I am going slow. If I shift hard it never seems to be a problem but when you try to do an easy shift from 1st to 2nd it usually goes into neutral. Let me know if anyone else has had this problem.

I do it a lot when drag racing trying to get to 2nd too fast. Remember - half way up you are supposed to be in nuetral.

How is the gearing on the yfz? I am debating one, but I had a 2001 raptor with the screwed up gap between 1st and 2nd gears. It made it awful to ride. I have heard some say that the yfz has a high 1st gear, is this a problem, or is it ok, can you lug the machine around, or does it just die? I am hesitant to buy a first year again, but it is hard to restrain myself from picking one up.

Thanks for any help

No you are wrong...Yamaha transmissions are bullet proof...no problems...must be rider error...rider abuse....blah blah....give it an oil change and let us know what happens afterwards

I never had any problems with mine, but I probably got rid of it before it could happen. I had it for over a year. I am more concerned about the gearing.

I love the gearing on the yfz. It has a close ratio tranny that has perfect gear spacing for me. I don't think first gear is to tall but I had a crf 450 and I am use to it.

Cool, that is what I was looking for. I might end up picking one up for my wife .
