raptor reverse light problems help!
I have had my raptor at yamaha three times now because the reverse light comes on after the atv gets warmed up and i am running down the road. The light comes on and the bike shuts down. When I pull the clutch in and let it back out the light goes off and the bike runs again. But within a few seconds it does it again. It is really bad when i am at top speed.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks

your raptor must be a 2002 or newer.
They have a limiter for when you are in reverse. Problem is if anything happens to the wire from the cdi to the switch down by the sprocket you will get shut down and the limiter engaged in ALL gears - the light will also come on.
I cannot believe they cant fix it.
What you need to do it pull off and clean the wire that snaps onto the reverse switch at the sprocket. Maybe even pinch it a little so it gets good contact. If that doesnt fix it the switch is malfunctioning - if you have a an ohm meter check the pin on the switch to ground - you should have 12 ohms in all gears except reverse. In reverse the switch goes open.
The CDI can see when the switch goes open and triggers the light and limiter. so you have an open somewhere, clean the connector very good.
