Wolverine or Eiger
#32
We should put the weight thing into perspective. As listed by their respective OEM's the dry weight of the Wolverine is 477, the Eiger 5-spd is 577. That is 100lbs difference which is considerable! More than I originally thought since the clowns at Dirt Wheels can't seem to ever get the correct specs put in their magazine. The Eiger offers a lot more features, but at a price in weight. I think a guy would be hard pressed to get an eiger down to the same weight as a Wolverine but I bet a 50lb weight loss would be possible, just by removing the racks, front bumper, tow hitch, fender flares/floorboards and replacing the stock steel wheels with aluminum. The results will be a quad that is close in weight to a Wolverine but still has all kinds of stock features like the dual range tranny, PT 4wd, larger engine and larger tank that are either impossible to put on a Wolverine or cost lots of extra $ to do so.
I guess my point is if somebody is going to consider modding a quad I believe the Eiger is a etter place to start since, aside from wheels, all the mods are free. JMO. I originally looked a buying a Wolverine and modding it into what I wanted but it wouldn't have done what I wanted.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but just had to clear this up. A stock wolverine will beat a stock eiger in a race from a dead stop all the way to top end. I have 2 friends that have eigers, one with an auto and the other a manual, and I beat both of them when mine was still bone stock. It is a close race right off the line but about the end of 2nd and into 3rd, I start to walk away fairly decent. Nonetheless, the eiger is a great machine.

Heck might as well keep this alive! One point to throw in that people seem to be dissing the Eiger on is the weight. Keep in mind this is A UTILITY QUAD. Yes we all like to have fun but if you are buying a UTILITY QUAD chances are you want to do some work with it, and in this respect more weight is a huge advantage in traction. Any quad I have ridden had the power and gearing available to tow anything, pull 70' pines out of the woods etc, but traction is always the limiting factor.
And don't think you can simply throw 150 lbs on the front and rear racks and make up for it because now you've squatted your suspension and lost valuable ground clearance because the suspension was not set up for it.
Anyway, just something to consider when buying a utility quad...
