Finished installing carbs and noticed a sound I realy didn't like...pulled the motor
pulled the top-end
piston was broken on the skirt on the intake side

Any suggestions on extra stuff to check while I'm inside?

Rod still looks good

 

Build a monster, it is only money. Was the piston still in the rod?? Just a chunk of skirt missing?? I self destruted a JE piston but it had been lightened and then lightened and then lighten some more. That last bit of lightening was a little to much i guess.

 

could have been bored crooked

 

just make sure you split the cases and flush the bottom end of any debris, this will really save you some money.

 

check your crank and lower rod bearings.

 

Luckily it's only one side of the skirt...I'll pull it the rest of the way down
From the top the rod still looks great...what have the failed rods shown beforehand?
