The lighting is a over priced piece of junk. I could go buy a brand new S-10 and throw a Supercharged 350 with a intercooler and some traction bars. It would still be cheaper then the lighting and would absolutely smoke the lighting. Thats what I'll be doing to my truck now that it's paid off, and i'll be getting a liscence plate that reads LIGHTNKILR.

ALWAYS, always, ALWAYS, always, ALWAYS Drive a CHEVY!

I don't know of one sport truck enthusiast who doesn't like to get some around a corner or do a sweet burnout every now and then.
AWD will get you off the line faster...silly
a 2wd with traction bars would too silly.........and it wouldn't be as heavy as the AWD

I drove one of those SS's When it came in up here.........(I work at a car dealership.........Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Chevrolet)
The SS won't come near hanging with my truck!
It just feels weak ta me?
JMO!

PoserYEAH- I would love to see how easy that conversion would be! It is not nearly as easy on the newer stens as it was on the earlier gens. But, even if you did do it, how well would it handle? What kind of gas mileage? And most of all, how reliable? By the way, it is not hard to get Lightnings into the 11's. How is it overpriced? You can get a used '01 or '02 for $20-$25k and a new one is around $35k. It is also 7 grand cheaper than the Chevy SS and is faster. Also, it is no wonder that your fantasy super sten might be faster, because the Lightning is a full-sized pickup with way more of a tow rating than your super sten would ever have. We are also not only going for speed, but comfort and reliability and amenities, ****, you could probably go custom fabricate an s-10 with a dam duramax, too, but I bet almost all the people on here would go buy a real truck just because Chevy made it and not some po dunk with a welder. I'll believe your wonder truck super sten when I see it. By the way, Street Truck had a S-10 w/ a 475 horse LS1 in it and it only ran 12's, AKA a Lightning w/ a chip and K&N panel filter. WHAT!

Tyrespinner- Yeah, but don't you ever want to do a hellified smokey? Ever?

Really the Burnout depends on how the AWD system is put together. Syclones and Typhoons can do them, Skylines can do them; the AWD takes the power that was going to the front and puts it to the back on those systems. Why burn two when you can burn four?

And since we are on the subject of S-10s the towing capacity of the 2WD is from 5600-5900 lbs which is, dare I say, greater then the lightning, and the SS is 6400. If your gonns haul why not buy the SS and throw a supercharger on it ( you could drive it in the dunes ) The beauty of AWD???

ok I'm gonna stop before I make someone upset

This thread is starting to remind me of the ones asking what is the fastest utility Quad? Then the person gets their @$$ chewed for asking because its not a sport so who cares.

Warrior350R- I stand corrected on the towing numbers. No harm done in proving me wrong. So, in, say, a Typhoon, if you powerbraked it it would spin only the rears? If this is true I again stand corrected, but your statement of "why burn two when you can burn four" makes me think you say it spins all four at the same time, which would be impossible, right? I would have to see it to believe it (not held by an outside force) Also, why burn two when you can burn four? So after the back ones are spent, you can just put them on the front and switch. Doesn't turn as well, though.......

Guys, there are Powerstroke deisel trucks and vans running 12s at the World Ford Challenge. I know that some Cummins trucks have done it too, but you just won't see GM oil burners running that fast.
and why would you see a GM at The World Ford Challenge??????????? Put down the pipe and back away slowly.................
