Default need ideas for mods on a 04 Le raptor blck on blck

im trying to find out what would be the best bolt on setup i can get at a resonable price for the type of riding i do, mostly trails and sand, hoping to be able to beat my buddies new predator he says all he has is a pipe and filter kit. he barely beats me each time we drag and im getting tired of it.

get a yosh and a jet kit then you can beat him,and take the lid off the airbox, you will also need a pro design filter..

I'm not a big fan of Yoshimura but I agree with Raptor03. Get a good pipe, pro-flow w/ K&N, and rejet and you will definitely dominate your buddy. I run alot of sand and we have problems with running no airbox lid. So, we have all gone to running a lid with a bolted on outerwear. Same amount of air travel but keeps your box clean.

If you do nothing else, change the filter. I bought 14mins set-up on e-bay and I'm totaly happy with it. A slip on pipe will give you some more power look and sound better (you don't need to change the header unless you want it to look different or you do some engine mods).
Then you need to change the a-arms, axle and shocks. I think those are the very basic mods to go faster.

If you pipe and filter your bike, you will have to rejet. You will be running so lean you'll melt a valve. Those three have to come together to keep the bike running right.

I have 01 raptor I have been all the way down that road. What got me going was that I got beat by a 440 canindale that is'nt right a 440 beating a 660 . So I added graydon pipe dyno jet neddle kit with prowflow filter with 170 175 jets removed airbox lid and it picked up about 2 length on him the next time but I still got beat thow. I instald a JE 11 to 1 piston and at the time the lagest web cam and port and polished head this got me even with him but that is depresing aint it. I tryed 108 octane racing gas and picked up 2 on him finaly I was infront went to 110 race fuel picked up a 2 more then I tryed TORCO STEALTH fuel it has oxegenaters in it we had to go to 180 185 jets because of the extra oxegen from the fuel. That really rocked his world I put 10 lenths on him with the stealth fuel. Now Im on methonl with homemade jets with 1/8 inch holes feeding each stock carb it is now and has been the fastest raptor at LS 14mins aint even close there is one on nos but I have yet to race him it has always broken from one thing or the other before I get there the only thing I have had go wrong was a cracked piston . I now have a 12 to 1 JE and the third largest cam from web and it rocks bar none. We have added a few other things but I'll save that for another day.

The torco stealth is 7.50 a gallon but when I ran it all I had to take was 10 gallons for a weekend of racing compared to 30 gallons of methanol

that's true........but it isn't practical to just ride on that stuff.........to high and probably not good for the motor.........

I ride about 6-7 hours a week.......that would be tons of money in that fuel!
